 DMP Final Script

DMP Artist Educator Statement:

In an artistic sense, I learned a lot from completing this project. Never before had I devised my own show, accounting with a group of people for every small detail to ensure that our message and theme was conveyed clearly. One of the ways that I helped to contribute to the project was through the composing of the script. I helped our group come up with the lines that were to be said and how they should be said. This was an interesting process with which I had never previously engaged. I did not realize how intentional and precise we would have to be with every line of the script. I learned that there is a major difference between a sentence that changes just a few words, and the way that sentence is delivered orally also alters the meaning. These were all things that we had to consider while writing the script. By being intentional, we were able to create a script that told a story exactly how we wanted it to. Another major way in which I contributed to our project was through the visual components. I selected all of the projected images and designed a specific order to show the slides in order to enhance the visual aspect of our show. Similar to the process of devising the script, I learned that the smallest alterations made large differences. I strove to be intentional with the images that I was including. I was mindful of the colors, the composition, and how the various aspects of the art would affect and convey a particular mood in the show. Ultimately, I was very proud of the production we were able to create and the ways that I was able to contribute to my groups project.

Educationally, I felt that for me personally, this was a very cool assignment that pushed my creative limits greatly. The process of creating something from scratch with a random group of people really stretched me. It forced me to generate ideas, contribute what I could think of, make comments and moves to help my group progress, etc. I think that these are all helpful skills and experiences that could be easily carried out with students of my own. I think this assignment would work best for students if it was broken down into smaller pieces. For example, it could be beneficial to have the final product be less than twenty minutes. I also really liked how this assignment was broken into parts. That would be a really good thing to do for students. I also think it could be interesting to focus on certain aspects of the production like visual aspects, audio, etc. and create mini products in those categories.
